On Monday, 14th January 2019, the immediate former Vice Chancellor of MMUST, Prof. Fredrick Otieno, officially handed over the rein of leadership to the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Bosire. The event, which took place in the Vice Chancellor’s Office, was attended by the three Deputy Vice Chancellors, the Registrars, the Finance Officer and other members of the University Management Board.
In his remarks, Prof. Otieno mentioned that He was handing over a financially sound
University with qualified staff and a strong teaching and research culture. He urged the Acting Vice Chancellor to continue with the culture of excellence in order to continue building MMUST to be a world class student-centered University.
In response, Prof. Bosire thanked the outgoing VC for his availability when called upon. He attested to the fact that, indeed,MMUST was a financially healthy institution as per the observations he had made so far. He called upon the members of Management Board and all staff to work together in unity for a progressive institution.The handing over report entailed, among other things, status of capital developments, MMUST Bank accounts operations, reports from divisions and various sections including the Council, Senate, University Management Board, administration and finance, students and academic affairs, planning, research and innovation, legal office, human resources, procurement University health services among others.Prof. Joseph Bosire was appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, on 30th November 2018 after the expiry of term of Prof. Fredrick Otieno as the Vice Chancellor.

It was all joy and celebrations at the University when the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board made the long awaited announcement that MMUST was now accredited to start the of School of Medicine and offer medical courses. This comes after the Board visited the University on Tuesday, 18th September 2018 and inspected its physical facilities, human resource, curriculum, Strategic and Business Plans among others Mr. Daniel Yumbya, the Chief Executive Officer of the Board, said MMUST had met all the requirements required by the Board and was given the green light to admit students. According to the Chairperson of the Training, Assessment and Registration Committee (TARC), Dr, Elly Nyaim Opot, who was also representing the Chairman of the Board, Prof. George Magoha, MMUST had undergone a series of inspections to ensure that it had the requisite infrastructure for the establishment of the School of Medicine. The Vice Chancellor, Prof.
Fredrick Otieno, was all excited and called on all stakeholders to join MMUST in building the first School of Medicine in the western region.
The Board gave MMUST the go ahead to admit the first twenty (20) students to the School of Medicine. Consequently, the University is expecting to admit ten (10) students as from Monday, 24th September 2018 when it will be receiving its fresh students.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) community gathered for prayers at the University’s Graduation Square on 22nd January, 2019.The prayer day was held in light of recent demise of both staff and students and also to bring MMUST fraternity together.
MMUST Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Bosire joined hands with the University’s chaplaincy to organize the prayer day which was attended by the University Council, the University Management Board (UMB), Deans and Directors, Student leaders, teaching and non-teaching staff, representatives from other campuses and invited clergy. The Guest Speaker was Bishop Emeritus Dr. Bonifes Adoyo of CITAM (Christ is the Answer Ministries) church.
The Chairman of Council, Dr. Jeremy Bundi, said he was grateful that staff and students had been resilient in keeping hope in spite of the difficult times of losing key staff members and a number of students. He further said that the gathering of staff and students for the prayer day marked a new page for the University. The Acting Vice Chancellor, in his speech, called for unity and thanked both staff and students for their support from the time he joined MMUST on 1st December, 2018. He said that the appeal made on behalf of the dismissed staff and suspended students would be handled in accordance with the rules. Prof. Bosire urged key administrators to embrace peace and dialogue in order to steer the University towards intellectual excellence. He expressed his sincere condolences to family and friends of the bereaved.
Also speaking during the event was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation), Prof. Egara Kabaji who spoke against the use of social media to heckle one another and tarnish varsity’s reputation. He said that every institution goes through upheavals and that was why the University was calling upon the Lord for cohesion and prosperity. He commended the efforts of the Acting Vice Chancellor and Chaplaincy in organizing the prayer day and bringing MMUST fraternity together.
